AhlulBayt News Agency: Dutch police detained five pro-Palestine protesters on Monday during a World War Two commemoration event in Wageningen, central Netherlands.
According to Mehr, As the city marked the 80th anniversary of Dutch liberation, between 250 and 300 demonstrators gathered to oppose the Israel-Gaza war and urge the Dutch government to take a stronger stance, according to local media reports cited by Reuters.
The protesters carried an 80-meter (262 ft) long red banner, describing it as a representation of “the red line the government refuses to draw,” in reference to Dutch policy.
During a speech by Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, Dutch media reported that a protester threw a smoke bomb onto the stage, where visiting Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk was also present. However, a police spokesperson could not confirm whether the individual was among those arrested.
In his remarks, Tusk addressed the war in Ukraine, asserting that Europe's era of comfort and freedom had ended and that unity among nations was essential to overcoming contemporary challenges.
